it means both.longer run time will give you longer intervals between cycles.i could be wrong but i think it only makes a difference for heating and has nothing to do with the ac.if it’s the ac thats giving you trouble you may have to relocate the thermostat.
ps that adjustment switch is called the heat anticipater.

it should be on top of tank it looks like a hex bolt.however i don’t think that is the problem especially if cold water is smelly also.

on the gfci it has 2 sets of terminals on the back.line and load.line is the power coming and the load is the power going out. 20 amp feed through means that the load can be up to 20 amp circuit meaning if you install the gfci on a 20 amp breaker with #12 wire it will be perfectly legal to do so but the gfci socket itself is rated for 15 amps so you don’t want to plug anything into it that draws more than 15 amps.make sure you don’t connect the incoming power to the load terminals.the gfci will not work properly.

go to home depot and get a gallon of cleaner called Krudcutter.mix with water(read directions)and apply with a stiff bristle deck brush.let it set for a while and rinse with a garden hose.Krudcutter is safe for surrounding plants and grass and works well without employing harsh chemicals or acids.

get a good deck wash(like behr)pour some onto the stain and scrub it in with a deck brush.let it set for awhile then rinse it off with a garden hose.use caution and read the directions on the container and wear safety glasses.it has acid in it but it works when other cleaners fail.

you are going to need replacement windows, thats for sure.the best window there is,is the window that was properly installed.since you want to do it yourself my suggestion is replace one window and see how it goes.if you feel comfortable with it and everything goes well then continiue.if not then you can contract the others out.some good names are anderson, marvin, and pella.

the only problem you might have is at the top if you have to shim up one side to make the new jamb square.

it’s on the wrong terminal now.try a different wire on the black screw.theres a 50/50 chance you will select the right one. then if it doesn’t work use the other one.this is assuming it was wired correctly before you replaced the switch.

take the cover off the back of the dryer(after you unplug it)and check the thermal fuse.
