I view at 1024x, so I didn’t notice there was a problem, so I changed to 800x and it is true you can’t see the right side of the posting screen without scrolling.

If the ads on the left are reduced to half their width the problem will go away. Ads are supposed to make you notice; annoying is one way that salesmen get noticed. Make a choice marketer, – good cleverness with fewer sales from fewer contacts – or more people viewing.

It could be the location of the thermostat combined with the construction tightness of the house.

A flame sensor is a rod that is close to the ignitor that sits over the fire with a thin wire that runs back to the ignition module. It needs cleaning at least yearly as it coats with what is in the air. Ordinarily the sensor is cleaned during the yeraly maintenance procedure, but many owners are used to old furnaces with standing pilots that were less finicky that were made before today’s energy saving requirements.

If you can find it and clean it, then it does the trick you can save some money. However, you didn’t check the gas pressure CO and CO2 level, the exchanger, lubricate any motors, tighten and clean every connection; so you still would have to do that unless you want the next service emergency call.

Be aware that most furnaces today do not use thermocouple gas valves; but rather use ignition controls that operate themselves AND the gas valve, so usually do not use the gas valve as the anticipator current. Historic information is not the current situation.

If you place insulation directly to the roof metal, condensation will collect inside the insulation making it useless. Make sure there is an air gap of a few inches so air can circulate. Place a vapor barrier on the interior side of the insulation so moisture is prevented from going through the insulation to the roof material.

The two wires for a furnace usually go onto RH and W.

(R), Red, hot side of transformer.
    (C) Common side of transformer (See B)
(Y), Yellow, Compressor activity (cooling or cooling and heating on a heat pump).
(W), White, Heat (gas burner, oil burner , electric heat, (auxiliary heat on a heat pump including defrost output from the outdoor unit to activate electric heat and turn on the AUX. heat lamp).
(G), Green, furnace blower fan. (needed for air conditioning, heat pumps and some electric furnaces).
(O), Orange , Energize to cool (used for reversing valve on heat pumps)
(B), Blue or Orange, Energize to heat (used on some systems, Rheem/Ruud is notorious for this).
    (B) or (X), Blue, brown or Black, common side of transformer. Needed on some electronic thermostats or if you have indicator lamps. Do not confuse with (B) Reversing valve (energize to heat) above. York and Trane like to use (B) as common.
(E), blue, pink, gray or tan, emergency heat relay on a heat pump. Active all the time when selected, usually not used.
(T), Tan or Gray, outdoor anticipator reset.
Used on GE/Trane/American Standard and some Carrier Products.
(W2), Pink or other color, second stage of heat (may be same as (W) on heat pump or fossil fuel system). Note: some thermostats require a jumper from W1 to Y for heat pump operation.
(Y2), Blue or Pink, second compressor stage.
(L), Blue, brown, tan or gray service indicator lamp.
Numbers, see manufacture’s diagrams but can be stages of electric heat especially on York/Borg Warner/Coleman-Evcon, Frasier Johnson/ Air-pro.
(X2), Second stage of Electric Heat on GE/Trane/American Standard. See link above. Also used as indicator lamp or misc. contacts on other systems

You describe a code 14, which is an ignition fault where you look for the gas valve to be open or the ignition ground wire is clean and connected tightly:

You are going to have to figure out if the chimney top is too short and close to the roof, if the draft diverter of the furnaces is mislocated or damaged, the pilot is too small or mislocated, or the heat exchanger has a hole in it. Once you do that, you can take the risk of fixing it yourself – or leave the responsibility to a pro who has seen the problem a few dozen times. If you do it yourself, you still won’t know if everything is the way the factory expected it to be, the pro might.

That is a characteristic of heat pumps; when the thermostat setting is within 1 or even 2 degrees of the room temperature, the fan will continue to provide heat with the outdoor unit running. Talk to the service contractor to let him explain and check if there is something wrong.

My neighbor had a pillow catch fire from falling on the electric baseboard from his bed. I’d keep an inch clearance.

Usually the filters are inside the cabinet at the top of the furnace in back of the flue pipe. Panels remove to get at them.

I think any broken lines are to be spliced in an electrical box. A metal box seems preferable to plastic. The rest is patching the surface material, usually drywall and/or plaster that was originally there.
