** I’m at a complete loss as to what to do next short of calling in the repairman. **

Posting the dishwasher’s model number off its model and serial number tag might help us to see how it was designed (they’re not all the name) and what components it has which might be suspect.

You can find tips for locating the model and serial number tag on your appliances in the ‘Repair Parts’ section of my site linked below.

** The heater element … is easily replaced. **

Not usually on a GE dryer. On most of those dryer designs the whole drum has to be removed to gain access to it.

** Get some qualified electrician with experience in replacing dryer heater elements. **

While an electrician is usually the best bet to hook up a power line to a dryer, for actual service on it you should call an appliance service technician.

** when I use the other side of the dial,”eletronic dry-miser”, the dial will not advance, although the dryer does still heat. Could I possibly need a new cycle thermostat? What other part could be bad? **

That is impossible to say without knowing which model of Whirlpool dryer you have and how it was designed. The only reliable way for us to find that out is by posting the complete model number as found on the dryer’s model and serial number tag.

There are lots of things which could cause a ‘no heat’ problem in a dryer. Most of the common ones are listed at the following link. Each would have to be tested for one by one until the cause in your case is found.

Can anybody tell me the most likely scenarios for lack of heat in an electric dryer?

** My maytag washing machine [model PAV2300AWW] recently started making a horrible screeching sound while in the spin cycle. it sounds like it is coming from the drive pulley directly below the tub. **

Was the pump making any noise? They are a common culprit either from being defective or having foreign objects in them.

The outer tub bearing or something caught in the tub seal between the 2 tubs also might cause a noise on spin.

** I will try oiling it though. **

If you can’t determine that it definitely needs oiling and don’t know exactly where it should go, I wouldn’t suggest you just go spraying oil willy-nilly. You’ll likely not help matters and may make matters (possibly considerably) worse.

** Maytag Washer machine screeching **

Maytag now has server different designs of washers on the market. Without knowing exactly which one you have, it would be premature to provide any meaningful suggestions.

The only way to accurately determine which design of Maytag washer you have is to post its complete model number as found on the appliance’s model and serial number tag. You can find tips for locating that tag on your appliances in the “repair Parts’ section of my site linked below.

** The cold water comes in very slowly. ..

There may be sediment screens in either end (or both) of the water fill hose(s) which may be partially plugged. There may also be a sediment screen built into the water valve itself which if it can not be cleaned, the water valve may need to be replaced.

You can read about the water valves used on appliances at the following link:

You can get a manual for a current Frigidaire freezer (the same company that built yours for S ears) in Adobe Acrobat .PDF file format that the following link.

I would think its information should be close to what would be provided for yours.

If you used a ‘self piercing’ saddle valve or any kind of saddle valve and mounted it on the underside of a horizontal water pipe, you might as well change it now as you will likely run into problems with it down the line.

Most refrigerator manufacturers only recommend the use of a ‘drill type’ saddle valve (if not a regular plumbing tap) and it should only be mounted on the top side of a horizontal water pipe or the side of a vertical pipe to help prevent a sediment build-up in it.

** I need a users manual for kenmore chest freezer model #253,8195685 **

Actually the model numbers is 253.8195685 (no comma, it’s a decimal point).

If you can’t order one from S ears you can try contacting Frigidaire as they made your model for Sears and may be able to supply a replacement manual. You can find a link to Frigidaire’s manual page in the ‘Home Service’ section of my site linked below.

BTW. That happens to be a chest freezer which is a pretty simple appliance. I doubt the manual is more than 4-5 pages at most.

What do you need a manual for??

    ** kenmore electrical oven **

“Kenmore” branded appliances are built by any number of different manufacturers. We would need the complete model number as printed right on the appliance’s model and serial number tag to see which manufacturer made it for S ears and what that code means on their products.

You can find tips for locating the model and serial number tag on your appliances in the ‘Repair Parts’ section of my site linked below.

** Any recommendations for one of these units **

I believe ISE (In-Sink_Erator) makes the lion’s share of these units and they are just rebranded with the various manufacturer’s names (Kenmore, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, etc.).

I would suggest you go for one of the higher capacity models as they seem to be built a little better then the cheapo models. You can see various models which are available at the following link:

    LINK > http://tinyurl.com/6ja58

** does it run on a separate 115 circuit? **

I believe they do but check the products installations instructions (which are usually available at the various manufacturer’s web sites) and also local electrical codes as a GFI outlet may be required in many areas.

** How would I paint the doors to an old built in oven? What kind of paint would I use? **

It depends on how “old” it is and how it was manufactured at that time.

Really old ranges/ovens likely have porcelained outer door panels in which case there is no “paint” which will work (or at least look Ok… for long). In such a case, the panels would have to be stripped (usually by sand blasting) then reporcelained.

If they have a “powder coat” finish, they may be able to be painted with regular appliance paint (see the following link) or powder coated again. Most appliance paint will discolor when used in high temperature areas of a range. The outer doors aren’t usually subject to that great a temperature (not like a stove top) except where they are vented (if they are).

    LINK > http://www.appliance411.com/data.php?rcp=34%26AccCatID%3D12

You can find some companies which offer porcelain and powder coating services in the “Restoration” category of the ‘Appliance Links’ section of my site linked below.

** How does one i) lower the counter enough but ii) have enough clearance for the knees to fit under. **

I seen one sink design on TV (maybe one of Bob’s shows?) where the drain connection was at one side of the sink (rather then in the middle) so legs could fit under most of it when mounted in a low counter.

You can look at the following link although I don’t think they solved the problem in their sink installation.
