it would be extremely hard to replace that bottom rail, first you would have to take the glass out, take about the sash frame and then you would have to find a replacement sash rail that would fit exactly (hard to do), then put it all back together and hope for no leaks. The fact that Jeld-Wen is offering a discount is nice since most clad windows only have a 10-year warranty but i know Jeld-wen’s new windows offer 20 years but they didn’t back in the 90’s.

most manufactures only warranty wood clad product for 10 years on the window unit. That is the typical warranty for the industry. Not sure what would come of the suit but I would think mosts courts would say that the product was only warranteed for 10 years. Just like a car warranty. You wouldn’t go back on GM (just using them as an example) after 17 years and say that your car’s transmission is bad and expect them to pay.

most manufacturers have the same type warranty that windsor has. On the clad product it is 20 year glass – 10 year frame. on the vinyl it is 20 year glass – lifetime frame. This is a standard warranty for most of the industry.

MIGHT CHECK INTO GETTING NEW WINDOWS THAT OFFER THE LOOK OF OLDER WINDOWS. YOU WILL GET ENERGY EFFICIENT WINDOWS THAT STILL ARE HISTORICALLY CORRECT IN APPEARENCE. IN FACT MANY NEW WINDOWS ARE APPROVED BY THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY FOR USE IN HISTORIC HOME RESTORATION.

COULD BE CHEAPER THAN GETTING A CUSTOM SHUTTER MADE TO CHANGE OUT THE GLASS IN THE WINDOW TO OBSCURE GLASS. CHECK WITH LOCAL HOME CENTERS OR CHECK WITH THE WINDOW MANUFACTURER.

DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF MAINTENENCE YOUR WANTING. VINYL VIRTUALLY NO MAINTENENCE, WOOD LOTS OF MAINTENENCE, STEEL SOME MAINTENENCE, FIBERGLASS A LITTLE LESS MAINTENENCE THAN STEEL.

    I RECOMMEND WINDSOR PATIO DOORS.

as a window professional myself, i can’t believe that someone one who supposedly deals with the public would would tell someone their opinion and then tell them to put that in their pipe and smoke it.

MOST SLIDING PATIO DOORS SHOULD LIFT OFF THE TRACK AT SOME POINT ON THE TRACK. USUALLY THE MOST OPENED POINT ON THE TRACK.

usually manufactures recommend a opening 1/2″ wider and taller than the window to enable shimming. If shimming is not done than the window can bow out in the middle of the frame and allow air to leak in or the sashes to not operate correctly.

biggest difference between aluminum-clad and vinyl is you have more color options with aluminum. a lot of vinyl windows only come in white of tan due to darker colors heating up and warping in the sun. Though some manufactures do offer dark colors. usually aluminum-clad windows usually cost more than vinyl except in Andersen’s case where their vinyl clad window is more than most other major manufacturers aluminum clad product.

ANY TINT FILM WILL WORK, THE ONLY THING IS IF YOUR WINDOWS ARE FAIRLY NEW WINDOWS ADDING TINT TO THEM WILL VOID THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY.

HAVE YOU TRIED CONTACTING CARADCO DIRECT, MOST MANUFACTURERS SHOULD KEEP PARTS FOR ALL THEIR LINES AVAILABLE EVEN AFTER DISCONTINUING THAT SERIES. WE ARE ABLE TO GET PARTS FROM OUR MANUFACTURES FOR WINDOWS MANUFACTURED BEFORE 1990 EVEN THOUGH THEY NO LONGER USE THAT PART IN THEIR NEW WINDOWS. YOU MIGHT CHECK INTO THIS. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR DEALER JUST DOESN’T WANT TO ORDER THE PART FOR YOU.
