Some glass companies can install new double pane glass as a solution. You should make sure that your windows work properly before investing the money.

You might also want to get some prices on a new window unit since yours is old. Check the prices both ways and see if the difference is close enough to justify purchasing new windows.

    Good luck with your project!

If your windows were replacement windows then any problems should of been noticed during the measure. A proper measure is also an inspection of the window area.

If your windows were new construction (removing interior and exterior trim and the old window frame) then rot or insect damage that was hidden should be charged under a change order.

    Good luck with your project.

If you can afford the price (investment) then you can not find a better product.

You might be better off calling a glass company that can measure the glass and replace it without removing the whole window.

For some reason my mind was stuck on keyless door handles. You will not find the code inside of keyless pads for GDO’s.

Check your local lumber yard for a special pry bar. It will be very flat at one end (the end that slips under the siding) and will have two hooks at the very end. The other end will have an area for you to hit the hammer in order to pull the nails down and out.

Some of the handles come with 2 preset factory codes and they should be on a sticker inside of the handle. One will be the main code and one will be a code that you can give to a neighbor while you are on vacation. You can turn the 2nd code on and off. Hopefully the guy was to lazy to change both codes.

A few years ago we had a doggie door for our dogs, well it started off for our dogs. The salesperson at Petco reminded to me place the metal sleeve in the door every night to prevent critters from entering our home. Needless to say we got tired of this chore so we did not heed his advice.

Skunks ended up coming inside our home in search of food and ended up spraying our dogs.

Rating windows is not as easy as saying one is better than the other one. Consider these things when rating windows:

Looks- which window looks the best to you the owner. Does the window look good viewed from both the inside and the outside?

Function- does the window meet your needs? Do you want the sashes to tilt in for easy cleaning?

Options- does the window company offer the options that you need? How about colors, windows are now sold in several different color both on the inside and the outside. Window screen are now available with several different options.

Maintenance- do you want a window that is easy to clean and does not require any painting or staining?

Warranty- how long is the warranty that they offer? Will the company be around to honor the warranty? Does the warranty cover labor? Is the warranty pro-rated? Do you have to buy replacement parts at an inflated price?

NFRC ratings- Do you care about how good the glass is? DO you understand the benefits of triple pane glass? Do you know the differences between the different spacers? Do you know about Argon gas or Kyrpton Gas?

Customer service- will the company handle your window issues in a timely manner. If one of your sashes (glass) breaks how long will it take to get you a new one.

You should check the BBB reports, and several of the other on-line complaint databases to get a feel for what people are saying about a company.

I’m sure that I missed several items on how to rank/rate a company but you should get my point. Good luck with your project and hopefully I have helped a little.

Look on the hinge side frame piece for a sticker with your serial number. It should also have an 800# for parts.

If the door is only a few years old you might have luck at your local Home Depot. Check with the door department on occasion they have some spare parts.

What are you looking for by replacing your windows? How long do you want the windows to last? Do you want wood on the inside? Do you want to tilt the windows in order to clean them? Do you want windows that have average ratings or do you want windows that are rated really high? How long of a warranty do you need?

Generally new home builders like Andersen windows because the brand name sells the job.

Very few specialty window contractors use Andersen windows. Marvin has some very nice windows if you can afford the price tag. If you are looking for really good energy ratings then neither company comes close to the top of the list.

You need to remove your existing decking.

#1. Your deck will carry a bunch of weight that is not needed.

#2. The wood will expand/contract at a different rate than the wood.

#3. You would not have proper drainage.

I could go on and on.

How far apart are your deck joist?
Is the frame in good condition?
