I know its a crossover situation but to fill a gallon and still being close to hot? and where did the shower you mentioned come in? In a kitchen faucet?
boothbayParticipantThank you, that’s the one.
boothbayParticipantThanks, I am getting to find that out now after the fact. My installer did not ask or tell me about this notch you mentioned. I have a stainless steel sink that was installed with it.. Are you talking about a notch in the rear of the sink where the faucets are installed? Being its too late for that, i need i think a nipple extender…so far a couple of plumbing suppliers don’t have it.
boothbayParticipantI didn’t take it seriously…about the putty. Going to home depot and get myself hopefully a cap nut…that is all it needs, not a plumber. I was looking for some suggestions in the interim.
boothbayParticipantHI, thanks for your response. Yes, the thermostat is on the lower main floor and set at 74…which, more than likely the bedrooms are around near 80 at least, plus this is all with recent triple glass new windows installed.
It is also possible for thermostats to be attached to individual rads so each can actually be controlled separately aside from the main thermostat control for the whole boiler. >>>>
Your reply about each rad having a separate thermostat sounds interesting…just what do i need to get that done? Thnaks again.
boothbayParticipantMy salesman for the local gas company who is installing the boiler gave me a card for a company that removes asbestos. Now, maybe I am paranoid, but i thought I could do this myself..its only a foot long, but he told me that there is a special way in how to get cut it up and get rid of it…of course they maybe helping each other out, and I could see that, when there is a big job of removing asbestos at stake..but a foot only? Who knows what they will charge for such a small job…most likely over a hundred, which I believe its an overkill…anybody have some logical suggestions? Thanks
boothbayParticipantI’m confused..are you warning me about a Burnham product or recommending it..sounds like both.
boothbayParticipantToday, I got my second estimate from Sears, and they seem to be in accord with the previous estimate as far as high efficiency units not advisable for my home. They offered Kenmore and Penco units…but their prices were higher than my local gas company. Penco cheaper than the Kenmore, but not by much. Are you suggesting that I change over from steam to zone water system, whatever that is? If so, isn’t that going to cost me more in installation. which I am trying to avoid, especially during these trying times?
boothbayParticipantThanks for the info…but am at a loss reading all that you implied…not knowing much, if anything at all about the subject. The most I got out of it was something about heating water ( which is not my primary concern. I neglected to mention that I have one pipe steam heat..your article sounds more like for hot water heat. Correct me if I’m wrong. The salesman did not give me the model only the make..Burnham boilers.
boothbayParticipantThanks..might I presume getting a new boiler would not solve my problem? My boiler is about 50 years old..so replacing one is possibly needed. From what you said, I need to get someone to check my radiators and do all those functions you mentioned, that I am in capable of doing. My local plumbers, sorry to say are not that well tuned, and how to find a good one and know that they are good plumbers is problematic. Yes, my main bedroom has the largest radiator, and it gets all hot…no banging. I had put a large size vent because according to instructions, the furthest radiator should get the biggest opening, cause its the last to get hot. The 3 convection radiators that are inbedded into the walls, are difficult to determine if they are smaller than the upstairs cast iron one. Would it be just as wise to replace the larger cast iron radiator one with a smaller one?
boothbayParticipantHA.HA…apparently, your joke was in regard to another of my post..not about the threshold.
boothbayParticipant“You can make your own by yourself”
…sure I can if I was capable..I am not looking for a half ass job ( that I would do )..where visitors could notice right away..perhaps you can tell me just how to go about it step by step?
boothbayParticipantThanks…but no thanks:) I should have mentioned that i would like to finish this without the cost of more tools that I would maybe use once in a lifetime..my closet is full of those types of tools…of course, circular saw is not one of them.
boothbayParticipantIts my error, its CLR, rival to lime away. Unbeknownst to me as it was occuring, grease somehow landed on my floor just under the gas range over a period of time. It was accummulating as I finally got to notice. I have paint thinner and applied to the area with a rag and it did get most of it off, but not enough to completely do it. I hate to use anything that would make me undo its finish if possible.
boothbayParticipantThose are the only 2 wires I see..the red and blue. I believe u mean remove from the ballast, not transformer, that is what someone else called it. How do I see those other 2 wires that your talking about. if u like I can send u a picture.
