    Have you tried a search on Google or Craftsman Sites? You also may want to go to Sears and look for the machine and compare wiring.Then again on the inside of the access plate where you change the motor wiring there may be a diagram on the inside back of the plate. good luck and post back.

    The dip switches in the remote (they are back behind the 9 volt battery) MUST be set the same as the dip switches that are located in the transmitter up in the bell housing of the fan.Simply remove the collar next the the celing by turning it and then you may be able to see the switches that are located on the transmitter which looks like a block of black plastic.make a diagram of what they are set at and set the remote to the same value.     Sounds like you have a short some where.Remove and start the process of installing the fan once again.

    Is the wire that acts like and is an antenna hanging down like it normally does?

    Question , Are you in the same water district or city ? What does the Water company say,Ask them what the problem is.
