Great replies. Thank you all.

Someone recommended to me today to try to encapsulate the smell by laying a thick coat of a good deck sealant (one with polyurethane) on the floor.
Then drop plywood right ontop of the old flooring.

What do you all think of this idea?
What sealant would you recommend?

I posted a previous post about this toxic smell coming from the flooring of a studio I rent.
The floor is old rotting wood planks and the entire studio smells like tar.
Changing the flooring is not an option. Someone recommended sealing the floor with a deck sealer with polyurethane then slapping new plywood right on top of that. They think that would encapsulate the tar smell.
I ask all you experts…. What do you think?
