My painter stripped most of the trim and replaced some. He primed a bit and now it’s too cold. He’s taken a month and a half so far for what he promised in 3 weeks. My dilemma is if to tell him to now wait till the Spring to finish. On one hand, I’m concerned that he will want to get it over with now and paint without concern for the proper temperatures. On the other hand, if I tell him to stop working, all the new or stripped wood might suffer through the winter (I’m near Washington, DC). I’ve been told that the bare wood should be primed for the winter and then re-primed in the Spring before painting. But as temperatures now are in the 40s during the day, will the primer now bond or whatever the term is? What should I tell the painter to do? Thank you for your advice 🙂

Thank you. You say because of new of stripped wood being very susceptible to attack from mold or rot, I’ll be better off by applying at least primer. Then my question is: because I was told after two weeks primer doesn’t bind to paint the way it should, what should I do in Spring when I finish painting? should I prime again?

    Thanks for your help!
