I just put out my a/c in my bedroom window. A neighbor told me that I should have put a piece of wood below the a/c, so my window won’t break. How is that possible? I have noticed others who had put a piece of wood below, but I thought that was to protect the falling of the a/c out the window, if thats possible. How does the fact of not having wood may break the window? What part is the most vulnerable?

if the a/c is so large and heavy that the weight is creating undo stress on the window, then yes.
      otherwise no.

It depends on the window type, a/c size and design.

Most window air conditioners lever their weight against the upper window to keep it from falling out. That does put stain on the window and the window frame.

Resting the a/c on a piece of wood on an outside sill can help to reduce some of the direct pressure on the window when an air conditioner mounting bracket (see the following link) isn’t used for the installation.

A small a/c model in a window in good general condition may not absolutely require any additional support.

If instead it is in a vinyl window, something usually needs to be done to prevent the weight of an a/c from damaging the lower window tracks in which case inserting wood into those tracks first might be a solution.
