Quick question….as I look at my plumbing and hooking up my water softner….does anyone see a problem if I hook it up prior to the hot water heater…so really all that I would be softening would be the water going into the water heater. The rest of the water would be hard. This is the easist for me to do without alot of rework….any thoughts would be great!

Yes, if you do a load of laundry using cold water either to save on hot water or because the fabric needs it you will not have treated water. Warm will get you half.

its not the best way. The best way is to hook up the softener is where you water service enters the house. If that is a bad location run a loop to a suitable location. That way all yoour water is soft
