      Hi,

New here and hoping for some ideas. My wife and I built our home nearly two years ago and left our basement unfinished. We currently use it for storage of boxes and old furniture.

I recently noticed that an old chest of drawers is beginning to show small white mold spots and now the mold is spreading to other things around. I’m obviously concerned and I was wondering what I could do to keep the mold away.

I’ve done some reading and think that humidity and lack of air flow in the basement is the problem (no visible leaks or anything). My question is this- should I insulate the basement and install HVAC? Of course, I’ll clean the mold too!

      Thanks for any input.

that might solve the problems for now,,, if & when you decide to ‘finish’ the bsmt, there’ll be other stuff to do.

btw, man wasn’t meant to live belowgrade.

A dehumidifier is enough. Buy an hygrostat and during dry days, open the windows of your basement.
