Our Ruud central heat went out last night, of course it had to be the coldest night of the season so far.

It’s electric air/gas heat, unit probably 10 years old (not sure about that, we moved in in 2007).

When the thermostat was turned on, it clicked, but no heat came out. Our gas is on, and I checked the outdoor switch on the unit to make sure it was getting electricity (it’s one unit, all outdoors).

It hasn’t worked all that well since we had it, the a/c tends to freeze up in the summer and we’ve had to change the filter weekly to keep it from failing. Before I call a repairman I wanted to see if there was something I could do or at least a clue as to what was wrong.

It got down to 16 last night, but the weather guy says the rest of the week will warm up. We live in west Texas, get a lot of dust and high winds.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made.
