To the best of my knowledge asbestos was not used in residential composition roof shingles. It was found in mastics, felts and slate-like tile roofing (transite). Composition roofing is often constructed on a substrate of glass fiber. No guarantee that asbestos was NEVER used, but I haven’t seen it.
