I have a Sears garage door opener that will only open when the remote is within a few inches of the unit. The orignal remote was destroyed and I went to Sears and purchased a replacement for the same model. I programed the remote for the door and that is not the problem, however I may be wrong. Any suggestions on how to rectify the problem would be greatly appreciated.

First item to check is the battery – try replacing it with a fresh one. A battery than came with the replacement unit may be pretty old. A second thing to check is the antenna – usually a wire hanging of the main unit – make sure it’s hanging freely.

I have a Sears garage door opener that I have not used for over a year. Now the opener will not open from the switch inside the garage, let alone a remote. Is it broken or do I have to make some adjustments or reprogram?

Usually, I am just lurking on here, picking up loads of good advice. But, I can add 2 cents to this one!
We, too, have a Sears garage door opener with a remote. The ding-dang remote quits working about once every other month. My hubby re-programs like clockwork and it works just fine again… for awhile.
Needless to say, our next one WON’T be a Sears, but til then, memorize the reprogram steps, they aren’t hard after the first couple of times . Don’t waste batteries til you do this first, IMHO, we already tried that. Good luck. -

We are having the same problem. Our remotes only work right under the unit. Any new things to try?

I have a Sears garage door opener, around 1996 model. The remote will not work and the light on the wall mounted switch is flashing. The wall switch still works. Any ideas as to what I need to repair?

Bought our house 3 yrs ago and do not have any manuals for the Sears garage door opener. The door will only open 1-1/2 feet. Can anyone tell me what to look at first to see if something’s broken or have any advice on how to fix it?

Garage will barely ease up, then slam back to the ground. Sometimes it will go up all the way and then reverse down. What shall I do?

I can’t find anywhere a replacement or compatible remote for a Sears model # 139 664 953 opener. The sending unit or receiver is model # 139 663830. Can you identify this product and recommend a replacement remote control opener? We have a single button 12 position dip switch control. YThank you

After replacing all plastic gears (old ones were worn). Everything looks and runs properly except the unit only goes down one foot and then returns. This is both with and without the door connected to the trolley. Limit switches are correct. Any ideas. 1/2 hp Sears Garage Door Opener.
Thanks,
Rich. -

The keypad on our garage door opener will close the door, but it will not open the door. All the other remotes and the wall remote work just fine. Any suggestions as to what’s wrong?

My garage door opener is broke. I know nothing, except that I see the chain hanging to the ground and the wire with an inch piece of plastic on the end hanging from door? How do I fix it?

I have a Sears 139.53647SRT 1/2 HP GDO. Everything went wrong shortly after a thunderstorm. My remote attached to the wall continues to flash non-stop & the “SRT” button on the opener panel flashes five times, pauses for 5 seconds, flashes five times, etc. I have tried erasing all codes & reprogramming the remotes, but it won’t work. Can anyone help with my problem.

It seems everyone has issues with their garage door. Whether it is the remote control the motor or the spring.
discussions.tommmymac.us does not recommend the changing of the Torsion spring by a do it yourselfer. However if you are interested in seeing how it is done here is website devoted to it.
