A house we’re considering purchasing has a stucco exterior. It’s in good condition, but is bright sky blue…almost turquoise! I’m new at working with stucco and was wondering how I would go about painting or replacing the existing exterior.

Probably the easiest and fastest way to paint stucco is with a sprayer. Of course, if you don’t have access to the equipment, you could roll it. The depth of the texture determines the length of nap of roller which should be used. Discuss this with your paint supplier for the best roller cover for your specific application. Stucco replacement is not a DIY project for most folks. It is a skill learned with much practice. Of course, patching small areas is usually within the skill range of most reasonably handy home owners (with a bit of instructional advise from Google).

Make sure to power wash the stucco before painting. Another little tip if you are rolling it, is, to spritz the stucco with your garden hose before rolling on the paint. The water that you lightly spray on the wall will mix with the water in your latex paint, thinning it a little, and this will help it to get in all those nooks and crannies. Apply two coats for best results, but only spritz before the first coat.

      Hope this helps.
