Remote Control for Garage Door Opener

I have a craftsman garage door opener and have replaced the battery in the remote control.

Upon replacement of the battery the remote does not work, I need to know how to reset the opener, any help on this would be appreciated,

The wall transmitter opens the door but my hand held remote will not. According to the manual, I erased all codes and tried to put the code in again but the light bulbs on the opener did not flash. I have 2 hand held remotes with good batteries and neither one works. I push in the green learn button to erase old codes, led light gos off and then I pressed the hand held remote and the learn button. I held both down but the lights never flashed. I unplugged opener and waited. Tried the processed with both remotes. What could be the trouble?
