      Hi,

I just moved into a 1960s Cape Cod and I painted my basement a lighter color because it was too dark. I had to replace the wall outlets because they were a dark brown color and did not match the paint. After replacing them, nothing that was plugged into them was working. I had one of those circuit tester in my toolbox and plug it into the plug. When I plugged it in without anything else plugged in, it says correct. When I plugged something in, the tester changed to open neutral. What have I done wrong and how do I fix it?

      Thanks

Apparently you have a bad connection on the neutral.

Go back and check each one. Make sure that the screws are tight and that all of the wires are under the wire nuts and that they are tightened.

And check for any wires that might be broken.

sometimes what will happen is a wire will loosen up if the back wire (speedwire) holes are used instead of the screw terminals.(don’t know if you used these or not)
go back and make sure everything is tight and avoid using the back wire holes if possible.
