My garage door won’t open and I have no clue why. I thought the battery in the remote was dead so I replaced it and it still doesn’t work. I tried the pushing the button inside the garage and the door still won’t open.

Can someone give me some ideas to try without calling in someone to look at it. I am a single mom with 2 teens and I just bought my first house 6 months ago. I know nothing about repairing anything and i have no money left that I would want to spend on this if it is just something stupid.

Any suggestions to try would be greatly appreciated!
      Thanks,
      Old Sue

      Sue,
Find out if the motor is operating. You can detach the door from the track. DO THIS WITH THE DOOR DOWN!!! If there is no tension on the door it will drop if released while in the air. There is usually a cord hanging down from the track close to the door that will release the door from the track. Once you have pulled this cord check to see that the door operates freely and smoothly by lifting it and closing it. If it does not then you may have to check the springs that adjust the tension on the door. Push the button on your wall. Does the motor run without the door attached? If not, check power to the unit. Plug something into the outlet to make sure it works. There is a beam on newer garage doors as a safety feature to keep the door from closing on things. It can be found on either side of the garage door near the floor. Make sure this beam is operational. A solid light means that the beam is clear. Blinking means that something is blocking the beam or you need to adjust it so the two sides point directly at each other. The beam has to be clear for the door to operate. I had to clean the lense on mine to get a clear signal. Try these and good luck.

      Hi,

I have to change the combination on my garage door opene, Craftman Model 139.654101. It is an older model; hence no switches are available, instead it seems to be wired according to the circuit diagram, how do I choose a different combination? everytime I try to change the location of one of the wires, the opener stops working.

      Thanks,

The chain on my Craftsman model 139.53627srt garage door opener keeps falling off. I put keep putting back on, but the chain just pops off about half way thru the cycle. Is it the opener sprocket gear that needs to be replaced or what?

Please help I’m a single mom with not much experience and I don’t know what to do.

      Thank you.

It seems everyone has issues with their garage door. Whether it is the remote control the motor or the spring.

discussions.tommmymac.us does not recommend the changing of the Torsion spring by a do it yourselfer. However if you are interested in seeing how it is done here is website devoted to it.
