      I just had my basement finished. The Contractor installed cable for a phone jack but did no know how to attach the cable to the central phone system where all the other jacks are connected. The cable has red, yellow, green and black wires. Please explain how to connect the cable so the phone jack works.

      You will probably only need the red and green wires. The yellow and black are usually spares, or used for a second line. Simply connect the red to the other reds, and green to the other greens. If that doesn’t work, then describe the interface where all the other phones are connected (including wire colors), and I’ll try to help further.

      How do I start to install a phone jack? What do I need and should know before I start it?
