Mother’s 3500 sq. ft. house had a master bedroom suite and sun room added in the last 20 years. Those rooms were always too cold, at least 5 degrees lower than the rest of the house. I added booster fans to both runs (yes I know the duct work should have been changed but I worked with what I had), and things were OK until she had the furnace replaced.

The new furnace is a Carrier 58UVB and there isn’t any switched 110 VAC to the blower motor. She wants the booster fans working when the main blower fan comes on but not otherwise. The two fans draw less than 2 amps together so can I plug the hot line into connector PL2 at either Pin 1 or Pin 2 to get the booster fans to work only when the main blower comes on?

She has AC and the electronic air filter already hooked up so I’m running out of options here. If PL2 won’t work can I tap into some other connector for at least 24 VAC to power a relay for the fans? She’s driving me nuts since she can’t stand the sound of the boosters running all the time (I can barely hear them but she’s 84) and she’s tired of freezing in the sun room at night.

Use a fan center relay to power the fans independently of the furnace controls, close the relay from a fan ampere sensing relay when the fan motor runs, a common item to run humidifiers. A bit of fancy thinking required, but no strain to other controls.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made.
