I bought a new home in June that was built in 1957.

There is a door leading from the garage to the outside. It a wooden door but it looks like they put an interior door there instead of an exterior because the whole door is falling apart and peeling.

I want to replace the door and have no idea what sort of door I want to buy. Doesn’t need to be fancy.

For a basic utility door I would suggest a steel door. For about $175 you can get them solid or with a 1/2 light (window) in them.

Purchase a fiberglass door so you will not have to deal with the door rusting (like a steel door) or rotting (like a wood door). Just keep up on painting the jamb (wood frame) every few years.

I have steel exterior doors and they have been just fine. No rust, no problems. In a garage protected from the weather they should last a LONG time.

Fiberglass is fine too, so you have a choice.
