      I have a leaking toilet water valve. The leak appears to come from the shut off valve itself behind the handle. The question that I have is I know that I have to turn off the water to the house. Then do I have to drain the water heater? The former owner put in a tempering valve so that in the summer the toilet would not sweat? Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
      Sincerely,
      Gary Ely

      * Is Hot water heater at a higher level than the toilet valve?
      * 1. Turn off the water from the outside.
      * 2. Turn off water at the toilet valve.
      * 3. Remove the hose end from the toilet tank and stick the loose end in a bucket.
      * 4. Turn on the toilet water valve slightly to see how much water drains, if any.
      * 5. If the water stops, you’ve got it made.
      * 6. If the water keeps comming out, then drain the water heater.
      * 7 Repeat steps 4 through 6
      * Good luck… Adios… Jasper

      I’m thinking maybe all he has to do is try and tighten the nut behind the handle a little. If it’s the shutoff valve that is leaking a little behind the handle. Maybe just a little tighting is all it needs.
