I am installing a new pergo-type fooring. I will be installing it over the cushioned underlayment. i have watched many videos on the process and really have no issues with putting it all together(I have done a few hardwood floors in my time).

The one question which does not get answered in any of these vids is hot to secure the first row so that the floor cannot move. I know the subsequent pieces lock in but what keep the floor in place so that it can’t close even the 1/2 inch expansion gap. Is the first row glued or nailed? No one explains that.

I hope I get an answer. thanks

The first board and all the rest float. If you need to, cut a spacer from junk wood and put it on that side. If it’s a long wall use several.
BTW the only hard part is if your floor is not level within the 1/8″ or whatever the specification is. When the boards bend they don’t lock in nearly as easily.
