My husband and I are trying to install two ceiling fans in the same room on the same switch. We have an older home and the two fans were already installed, we are simply trying to rewire the entire house. We installed a new wire from the circuit breaker to the first fan, and are trying to get power to the second fan, and finally to the light switch. Both fans have the typical blue, black, white and green ground wiring. However, everytime we set it up in a way we think is most logical, we blow a fuse. How do we get the two fans in parallel onto a single controlling switch?

If your have it wired power-fan-fan-switch……then you’ll need a 3 wire w/grnd between the two fans…….Or wire it differently………

* Run a cable from Fan#2 to Fan#1.
* Connect Black Wire to Blue Wire at Fan#2 and Black wire to Blue wire at Fan@1
and white wire to white wire at both Fans.
* Connect Green Ground Wires to Green Ground Wires AND to ground screw at Both Fans.* This assumes no light fixtures This connects both Fans in parallel.
* Black wire (Hot) from power panel is not connected to Fan. It is passed on to one side of the wall switch.
*Wire from other side of wall switch goes back to Fan#1 and connects to Black and Blue wires at Fan#1.
* White wire from Power Panel connects to Fan White wires, from both Fan#1 and Fan#2 at Fan#1.
* Check out this website for wiring diagram.
scroll to the bottom of the page to see the diagram…http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/lights_and_switches.htm
* Good luck… Adios… Jasper.

The most straightforward way would be to bring the supply from the panel to the switch, and from the switch to the fans. You take hot from the panel to one lead of the switch, the other lead of the switch to the hot leads of BOTH fans. The neutral leads of both fans to the neutral from the supply, and all the grounds together.
Do the fans have lights?
