I’m installing a new door slab for a friend. He bought a 1-3/4″ wood door for his back exterior entrance. His existing door is 1-3/8″ thick. Can I still install the 1-3/4″ door into this frame or will nothing line up. I’d like to find out before I go routing out hinge locations and installing door hardware.

the difference is 3/8 of an inch.that means 3/8 of the door sticking out past the frame on the inside, not to mention you would need to offset the latches for the locks to one edge to align with the current strikes, ect.

      i would say no.

I would ask your friend to return the door and purchase the thinner one. This sounds like an interior door has been used as an entrance door rather than an exterior unit.
