Green water and brown/red residue

Hi, I hope you can help? When I have left my hot water tap running to fill a bath I returned to find the colour of the water was ‘green’, and when I ran this water out of the bath it left a browny/red residue – could you advise what you think this might be?? Many thanks, EV.

i would suspect the water heater has seen it’s day.how old is it? the rod could be rotted away.

Things like working on line or fire department flushing the hydrants will stir residue that has collected in the mains over the years.
