glass to wood glue

I want to hang a mirror weighing forty pounds. To do so I have to glue a wooden strip across the back of the mirror. The glued joint between the mirror and the wood will have to bear the total weight (40lbs).Are there glues out there that will let me do this?

Is there a reason you can’t use J-clips to mount the mirror ?

There is a product called mirror mastic that is used to install mirrors on walls.

Most stores will have it in the area of the construction adhesives.
