I have two Craftsman GDO’s. One of my Craftsman chain drive GDO’s broke after 4 years. It will go about half way down and either stop and retreat all the way back. This is with the door connected and with the door disconnected so it’s not the door itself. The GDO motor unit makes strange grinding clunking sounds. There is a lot of metal shavings on top of the big plastic gear directly beneath the metal sprocket that holds the chain.
I can replace the unit with another Craftsman chain drive unit but I’m thinking of going with a Genie screw drive system. Can I use my existing Security+ remote in the car with the Genie or make the Genie remote work? I only want one remote in the car.
Any other ideas?
