Our garbage disposal is about 5 years old. It drains ok, but when we let the potatos skin go into the disposal, the blades spin but the potato skins don’t go thru. We have to eventually take them out by hand. How can we fix the problem. Wil

If I’m not mistaken, most disposer manufacturers recommend AGAINST putting potato peels into a sink garbage disposal. Firmer or more solid food waste is better to be disposed of using them.

But if the disposer is not grinding as well as it previously did, the rotating shredder (the part that spins) and/or the outer grinding ring may be worn and need to be replaced. Depending on the exact disposer you have, such service may not be worth while.

The outer grinding ring might also just be clogged up and need a bit of cleaning. A specialized ‘disposal brush’ (see the following link) might help with that.
