I own an older bungalow style house with a dirt crawlspace(approx 50 years).
I have a 4ft section of floor in the hallway which is higher one side than the other. This dip continues into the bathroom where some idiot cut the joist whilst installing the toilet. At the moment there is cheap vinyl tiles stuck on the sub-floor.

I wish to lay down hardwood flooring in the hallway.

Would repairing the cut joist fix my dip or just repair the floor from above?
Do I need to level the floor and if so, how?

      Thank you in advance.
