I am painting an addition which has very old primer and no paint. The wood is cracking and the old primer is chalking. After sanding, it has been suggested that I use either zinsser cover stain or glidden gripper primer. Any ideas about which would be better? Also, can these be used with a paint sprayer or will these primers clog up the sprayer? Thanks!

I am not familiar with those primers, but Sherwin Williams has Pro Block which can be spayed and works really well. If you’re going to topcoat later, you might want to look at some of the really good paints, they have built-in primers and can go directly on wood, and, can be sprayed if that’s what you’re going to do. Good Luck.
