help! Just bought an apartment – all the walls – even the ceiling is concrete. I cant hang anything..tried with a few different drills and a diamond bit – and I just got a sore arm, a smoking drill and a very shallow hole.
Do I need a hammer drill for this? If so, do hammer drills have different sized bits you can buy? Will a hammer drill replace my other drill or is it something completely different. I obviously have no idea – help? 🙂

Yes. hammer drills can use different sizes of carbide bits from very small to very large, depending on the drill. They is usually a switch on them, so you can change from hammer-drill mode to straight drilling mode.

You must be hitting some of the aggregate(sp) rocks in the concrete, which can give you problems. Concrete is soft compared to the quartz aggregate. Look into Tapcon(blue)/concrete screws to hang items with. They require a very small bit and work well for what you want. Check at any hardware store for them. Good luck.

Let us know how it works out.
