for a small area in my kitchen…approx..2′ x 8′, sink in center. I also would consider undermounted sink…( but they are so expensive )…as for the granite, i’ve heard pros and cons..there are all types of granite, some more than others that give off some radiation..i believe…also, they can’t stand hot pots, acidic liguor ..ie…vinegar drops and etc..so why are they in demand, with these shortcomings?

People love granite for the look and durability — you actually can put hot pots down on it and it won’t burn the surface. There are other alternatives, though, such as solid surface and quartz. Quartz has a more natural look, like granite. Not sure if the radiation issue is rumor or fact. You do have to seal granite every year. I would go to a few stores and check out all the options.

then granite may not be the best choice for your home,,, if we spill things, we wipe them up,,, we don’t use knives to cut on c-tops of any type & their expense’s just a cost of granite including the specialists who quarry, saw, polish, & install,,, they’re in demand because, for now, they’re the hot ‘look’.

far’s the radon, stop reading the n y times – its urban myth impo,,, we recently replaced our c-tops w/granite for resale value along w/new custom cabinets,,, the only disadvantage i’ve seen yet is they’re unforgiving when you toss the plates, etc, carelessly 😉
