I am hearing concerns from my maintenance staff that the condensing furnaces are expensive to maintain. Replacement parts such as motors and controllers cost much more, are not available as a unit, and failure rates are higher. I wonder if anyone else is seeing the same problems.

I’d like to recommend them for energy savings, but am concerned that the repairs may exceed savings. Our climate is mild with about 500 hrs heating per year.

The motors are not significantly different unless you are including or requiring variable-speed motors. The controller boards are also not significantly different. I am not sure what you mean about motors and controllers not as a unit as they aren’t sold that way for other furnaces.

To assure service costs, purchase all extended warrantees so the cost is predictable.
