I have been using a wood burning furnace for years, but this year I am having problems with the chimney collecting water at the bottom. I have a hat at the top, and have lanscaped dirt to draw away any rain from chimney base. Still everyday, i can scoop 12-24oz of water from the bottom. any suggestions on what is going on?
Many causes. From condensation to bad flashing a roof leak rodents.
A natural by product of burning is water and if the chimney is not getting hot enough it may be that the pull is not creating enough updraft to pull all of the water and other by products out. Check your cap to make sure it is not partially blocked.
Check your furnace to make sure you have the right air mix.
then i would call a chimney sweep.
