Chainsaw runs, but chain does not move.
I did run it for a very short time with no(or very little) oil in the chain resivoir. When I remove the chain, all parts do spin.
any suggestions?

It could be that the centrifugal clutch is worn out. Have you checked to see that the sprocket on the nose of the bar is turning freely?

was never lubricated,,, there’s a small hole in the tip of the bar that accepts a small grease gun,,, chain oil only works for the bar’s chain race
