Greetings from Michigan. I am hoping that someone with background on Central Air conditioning systems can offer some input. My Carrier central air unit started blowing hot air about a week ago. The serviceman who I had come out an have a look determined that the outdoor compressor has a leak in a small piece of aluminum piping that runs along the bottom of the unit. He tells me that this cannot be fixed, and that I need to consider a new unit altogether. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would just like to know my option before spending a lot of money which I don’t have. Thanks…Phil (Philjg@comcast.net)

      Phil,

Run, and I really mean RUN, from this serviceman you speak of. Have another come out. This guy has not cornered the market on brains… yet. Report him and his outfit to the BBB before he advises more such trash to old ladies or single moms! Common sense says get more info before following anyones advice. Happy A/Cing!
