      Okay, here is the problem.

      1) I am replacing the fan switch (3 speed – 4 wire)on a ceiling fan light.

      2) I had removed the black wire connection, then the gray wire connection, and replaced the other two no problem, yet.

      3) I discovered there are 2 gray wires to connect to the switch. I don’t remember 2 when I took it off. One gray wire goes up into the lamp, the other into the side of a little box in the inside of the fan where other colored wires are connected.

      4) I am sure there where no wires that where not connected.

      5) I am sure it doesn’t connect to the other 3 wires.

      6) I don’t want to cause an electricla fire!
Especially since the spouse is away this weekend.

Oh the woes of a weekend handyman.

      thanks,
      buster

First, try contacting the manufacturer for an installation instruction sheet. Perhaps you got the wrong type switch?

Are the other wires on the switch purple and brown?

It is not common for there to be more than one wire of the same color going to the same spot on the switch, but usually they are wire nutted together. Sticking two wires in the same slot doesnt work.

Do you still have the old switch? Can you confirm it only has slots for 4 wires?
