I own an old jail with iron casement windows. (Restraining bars removed.) Window panes need caulking but caulk is hard and cracked and curled. These windows are hung from the top and have a folding strap iron ‘arm’ on each side so it can be swung out from the bottom. I think if I can unscrew the controlling extender arm, I might be able to unhitch the window from it’s top anchor. It puts me in mind of the old time stormwindows my dad used to hang up on the house in the winter. Does anyone have any information or tips on what I might do. also, there is some kind of tool that cuts away old caulk but I don’t know the name of it. Some one suggested a Dremel but that is too small.. this old caulk is quite thick.
I appreciate any tidbits or bunches of infor
      thanks

window putty. it should scrape right off.

it might help to warm it a little but don’t make it too hot or glass will break.
