      When I do laundry or take a shower, the water in the toilet bowl ‘gasps.’ It seems like there is a blockage somewhere (in the vent pipe?) that causes the bathroom sink and tub to drain slowly. Sometimes, when the washer is draining, it sounds as though water is going to back up into the bath tub. Is this common and how do I or a plumber fix it? Thank you.

      * When you put a straw into a liguid then stop the end of the straw with your thumb, you will note that the liquid stays in the straw until you remove your thumb that allows venting above the liquid thereby allowing the liquid to flow.
      * That’s what you have. The vent above the washer ia restricted. The water in the pipe needs air above it to prevent a vacuum from forming. When the vacuum forms, air is needed to allow the water to flow.
      * Where does it get the air from? Your toilet. The air is going from the atmosphere through th toilet water to the drain pipe.
      * Good luck… Adios… Jasper…
