I am going to stare tearing out tile from around the tub area to replace it with a tub kit. Some people tell me to leave the tile on and glue the kit to the tile and other people tell me to remove the tile and glue kit to the exsiting drywal, however will it stick to the damaged drywall? which is the best way?

removing the tile will probably destroy the paper of the drywall. I had this problem in a smalls section of my bathroom. I was able to hid it with paint and drywall compound, but I don’t think your glue will work well on a crumbly drywall surface. If you go though the trouble of removing the tile, I would replace the drywall with greenboard or backerboard.
I am not a pro though.

The people in my house before me put the enclosure on to of the tile, which worked out well when we has a little bit of leakin at the seams. The tile kept that from destroying the walls.
