Hi, I’ve enjoyed reading some of the past messages on the subject. The one’s I’ve seen are a bit old now.
My new (to me) house has asbestos shinles which have many cracks and some are broken. Is this a health issue? Also, does anyone know if the laws in New York State still allow a homeowner to remove the stuff on their own?

The house was built in 1835 so I have no idea if there is clapboard underneath or what.

Thanks for any advice and knowledge on the subject!!!

      Best,
      Tim

I am puttimg a disclaimer on this, but asbestos siding is pretty much safe to work with, the danger is messing around with the loose fiber kind. I live in the west coast and they don’t oppose it but N.Y. can be very nasty about doing the work yourself. Check with your AHJ. I am not being a prophet of doom, yes you can doit yourself but check on the regulations in your state.

Let us know how it works out.
