I am looking for a good air compressor to use around the garage for items like a ratchet gun, to inflate tires, and to use with a nail gun (some framing and some finish nailing). What size (hp and tank size) is sufficient for me? I have been looking at about an 8 gallon – either Sears, Campbell Hausfield or Porter Cable. Do I need one that big? Thoughts?

      Thanks!

      Campbell Hausfeld 60 gallon 6 hp…

BUT I use it with air shears, and spray guns to paint our vehicles. If you will only be using it for short use items like a ratchet then you wouldn’t need anything that big.

We got a great deal on this and it has met our needs. I know this probably wasn’t much help but thought I would share.

IMO it would be better to get something a little bigger than to have a smaller one that you will have to wait for it to charge back up and be unsatisfied.

Some have better luck next time around,
some don’t, and some don’t even try.
