      can someone tell me how these things are installed into the fixture?

      U-shaped fluorescents ?

      Straight fluorescents ?

      Small Halogen bulbs ?

      Some thing else ?

      Go to a bulb site, such as
      http://www.bulbman.com/
      and find something similar to yours. I’d guess you’re talking about one of the Halogen variants, but there’s even quite a few halogen types.
