I just removed and old oven from the kitchen which was a 220v unit–black, white and red–8 or 10 gauge wire. Can I tap from the white and red (or white and black) wires to supply a regular 110v duplex outlet. Code aside, is this reasonably safe?

if you try to use an appliance that draws a large amount of amperage, and try to use the oven at the same time, the load will be unbalanced and may cause the 220 breaker to trip. Just a heads up on applications.
