A recent spate of recalls by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) include a GE Washer and IKEA roll-up blinds.

About 181,000 GE Front-Load Washing Machines have been recalled due to a fire and shock hazard caused by the potential of a wire breaking and making contact with a metal part within the unit. More info on the GE Washing Machine recall can be found on the CPSC website.

Over 3,000,000 IKEA Roller, Roman and Roll-up blinds have been recalled due to strangulation hazard. This on the heels of a November blind recall that saw about half a million IKEA blinds recalled for the same reason. To read more on the latest recall, go to this CPSC page.

I’m starting to think that all roll-up blinds ought to be outlawed. Or at least the cords that operate them. Big money to the company that comes up with a child-safe version.
