    Hi,
Not all baseboards are for cosmetic reasons. In homes like mine and the last home I owned I have polished timber floor boards.Often its hard to get the wall and floor to meet perfectly, Some wall panels dont quite meet the floor or some timber floor lengths don’t meet the wall so there are gaps. Thats where the good old baseboards comes in and hides all those problems and stops drafts. The cornice between the wall and ceiling dose the same job as baceboards. regards Noelene

Hi, when you hear the water running again, make sure all other taps are turned off and go out to the water meter and take a reading. Then wait a couple of hours to see if the meter has changed. If it has you know for sure water is leaking somewhere and you know you need to find it. But if meter reading is the same then it can only be in your hot water system.

    Hi,
What a great idea. The safest thing to do is get an electrician to install a saftey switch in your main meter box. Its trips the circuit has soon as there is danger.
eg. your tv falling into water. But the great thing it covers every electrical thing in the house. Even if you are working out side with a drill on an extension cord beside the pool your covered. Don’t forget to buy your wife some champagne while you have your beer in the tub. you will score lots of points. Cheers Noelene

    Hi
I just rang the tile shop here in Sydney Australia called CTM its a large tile market chain. Its where I bought my adhesive from and explained that you live in the USA. He said there are two ways you can do it. The first way, which is the way I did it is with a product called Optima which sticks straight on the old tiles or the other way is you use a product called Prebond. What you do is paint this on the old tiles let it dry then you can tile over it with normal tile adhesive. But the problem is, he thinks you can’t by these brands in the USA. But he is very confident you can get the same type of stuff where you come from. Also you can do a web search by just typing in (tile adhesive) loads and loads of info comes back. Please let me know how you go. Regards Noelene

    Hi
I sure hope you can fix the water problem soon. You mentioned in your first letter that the puddle was near the enterance and a little on the side base board which sound like it drips on the floor and splashes up on the side board. There is one good way comfirm if the water is coming from the ceiling but most likely the bottom of the cornice. is lay a large sheet of plastic over the floor and up the wall were it gets wet then place a newpaper on top of the plastic were the puddle forms if the new paper gets wet you know for sure its coming from above. Also double check your flushing on the roof (and please be careful up there) because it dose brake down after years in the weather. Is your roof made of tiles because its a common problem at the roof ridge or hip is that the mortar between tiles cracks and crumbles away and in a cold climate a tile may be pushed out of place by snow, ice or strong winds.Or you might have a cracked tile. Hope this helps you out. Regards Noelene from Sdyney Australia PS. wish we could have some of your rain its bloody hot here.

What ever you do don’t remove the old kitchen tiles. You can tile over the top of them. There is a special adhesive you can buy for that job. If you try to remove the old tiles you will never get a good surface to tile over and you will end up having to replace that part of the wall. A year ago I re-tiled my kitchen, and I tiled over the old tiles and it looks great. My tiles also went around my kitchen window but not to the ceiling so when you tile over the top the new tiles sits out a tiny bit,all you do is make the top row of tiles sit a bit higher than the old tiles and fill it in with grout. This is a trick most tilers do.It’s also handy to not only have a tile cutter but an angle grinder for cutting eg. a corner piece out of a tile and curves. Also you can use cardboard cut-out as a pattern for around odd shapes then draw it onto your tile. Have fun regards Noelene

I good way to test to see if its the rainwater gutter is to get some food colouring or even the stuff you use to make toilet water blue. Put it in a bucket of water and pour into the gutter. Make sure you put some plastic and towels on the carpet so you dont mess it up.
    Cheers
