I so wish it were something that simple. It is an old house and I am lucky to have a three-pronged outlet let alone a test outlet. And I plugged the washing machine in the same outlet thinking that could be it, and the washing machine still worked.

I don’t know what it is and it’s probably going to cost a fortune to fix. One of those deals where it’s cheaper to buy a new one rather than get it fixed.

That was a good idea though. Thanks so much for the reply.

I don’t know if this applies to front loaders or not but the physics of it should be the same.

The drain hose has to be up higher than the water level is when it is full. that way the gravity will do the job, I won’t bore anyone with the specifics but someone else may come along and clarify this.

I was not directing my answer towards you, those that replied to you or anyone other than the original poster. As I read it, it reminded me of something my step-son did a few years back and it was so hilarious….and that was how I took care of the problem.

I guess if you wanted to be technical about the situation, my answer is also wrong because it does not “get rid” of it. It eliminates what is above the ground only.

I’m not trying to slap anyone in the face, except maybe my old man once in a while when he does his redneck tricks….but some of them work better than doing it the ‘professional’ way.

As I said, unless he wants to put in a garden or something where he will need to till up the area, doing it my way would work in my opinion. It was just an offer of a suggestion.

And just because the powers that be chose me to be a moderator doesn’t mean a damn thing. I learn something everytime I come to this board. If you look back, one of my original posts was about changing an electrical switch! Okay, so that’s great, they have a moderator who doesn’t even know how to do basic electrical ~ what kind of a board is this? I add to the conversation and bring up suggestions, ideas, thoughts, etc., so that others can add to it, and together we will hopefully come up with a solution to a problem that will be safe, economical and code approved. See where I’m going with this?

And with that said, I apologize for any hard feelings that I caused you because that was not my intention. I thought of my step`son, something another moderator said to me, I posted my little post and thought it would bring some smiles to those who read it. That is all.

I hope your day gets better. Happy Thanksgiving.

why not get out the grinder, dig down a few inches, cut the sucker off, cover it back up, plant some new seed and be finished with it? I mean unless you are wanting to put a garden in that spot.

Sounds pretty simple to me….????? But, I’m just a redneck, country truckdriver and mommie to 6, so….

…that would be an awful thing to get in your eyes.

Acetone nail polish remover will take it off.

Or something I discovered the other day, run it through the dishwasher. I had a plate that was glued and needless to say, it wasn’t when the cycle was finished.

    Good luck.

That certainly makes alot of sense. Terrific explaination. Just seeing all that exhaust going by the window just makes it seem like an awful lot of heat is being lost, although I know it’s because the exhaust is warmer than the outside air.

This is such a big releif. Fuel is too costly as it is now – hated thinking about it being wasted.

I haven’t been around much at all lately either. Probably 2 months – it’s great to be back tho…I missed you guys.

    Thanks again.

That was cute Bink. I wish it were a ‘cash’ register, then I wouldn’t have the problems I have with the landlord. But I’ve got a plan in the works for her. Will keep you all informed. It should turn out for the best.

    Have a great Weekend.

P.S. Before any one suggests it, this is the only register like it in the whole friggin’ house. There are about 4 different types!!! Matches the electrical work.

you live in my house…Tom says I bring Green Acres to his mind!

The vent is closed. It has a spring on it. I could rig it so it stays open. That’s probably the easiest thing to do. And it’s not like it would be the only thing around this house that is rigged instead of done properly.

Changed the light bulb in dining room to find out that the the base of the light is being held to the ceiling with SCOTCH TAPE!!!!!!! Why it has stayed up I don’t have a clue. It was one strip on each side.

I will probably die in this house in the middle of the night some cold lonely night.

Thanks Dodgeman…so where is my ferret anyway?

Wouldn’t that be nice? Sounds like your contractor is related to my landlord!!

Anyway as I read what you have done yourself, the only question that came to my thoughts was “What did the contractor do?”

I would be sure to document everything that you have done and what it, if any, has cost you, your time involved, etc. I would definately get one of those free consults that lawyers do and see what your options are with that avenue. The licensing board and the BBB sound like terrific ideas also. I would do everything you can. How many others has this guy ripped off and they just didn’t know any better than to take his every word for gold…

Thanks Dodgeman! So do you have a ferret I could get? I’ll be there tomorrow! LOL, no not really, I’ve heard they really stink. My boys would probably end up killing it anyway…BOYS!!…what more can I say?

As for the registers, yes they WERE screwed on at one time…but my BOYS…mamma’s little helpers…help make more projects… Actually they can be pretty handy when they want to.

They have these cars that they were playing with and thought it was really cool to use them to push their toys into the hole. You should have heard the noise on the first floor!! Alot of Lego’s!!!! It will be fun to say the least…

Thanks for the humor and help…

    Dan that was terrible…..lol

Try some Dcon. Comes in a cute little box shaped like cheese. You put it in the corner where you have seen them, or believe them to be, they eat the pellets, go off and die somewhere. Never had a problem with stink from carcasses or anything. Has worked in this rat hole that I like in numerous times – even with the rats too.

    Good luck.

P.S. IF you don’t like the poison idea, you can get glue traps. They run across the glue, they get stuck, you hear them, you throw them in the trash or in the field next to you or whereever you please. They work too, but I think the mice get wise to them. Mine seemed to anyway. Go with the bait, you put it out and forget it.

OH YAH! I don’t recommend the bait if you have a cat that might eat the poisoned mouse. I’ve heard it could kill the cat too….but don’t know that one first hand.

probably won’t be of much help but I have to ask WHY are you being sent to the basement? That is not the best place for a baby unless it is finished.

A floor would only have a tendency to mold if there is moisture. If you have a lot of humidity/condensation and/or water seepage, then you will most likely have mold. (This part I do know about).

If we had a little more info on your basement it might help the others answer. Is any of the basement finished?

So as I said, I’m sure this didn’t help much but I had to ask Why?

BOL to you and your newborn ~ I have 6 of them!!! 🙂

    Hey Doug,

As with my offer of the generator, we have lumber size tarps that we use for hauling the drywall and plywood…You can borrow them if you want to come get them… 🙂

Hope you will be safe and you all will be in my prayers. I sympathize with you as I am still continuing to clean water out of my basement. Hasn’t seen a dry day in around two weeks.

    Take care
