ParticipantThat’s where your stink is….inside the overflow of the sink…….Ever break a sink and see the open/rough/texture of the unglazed china?
If you take everything apart (again!)and remove the lavatory pop-up from the sink……the holes into the inside of the sink will be gunked up …..the passages partially blocked by the PO….Your expensive treatment just passes by most of the gunk….
You might get away with a hose and a bucket to wash out the goo………..I’d pull the sink and haul it outside…….invert and treat and hose it clean……..

ParticipantClassic old house tale……Sounds like the plumbing installation weakened the structure and continued water intrusion rotted the remaining……..
Repairing the damage would include removing any rotted wood and fastening replacements to the stucture in a similar manner to the original….and reinforcing the joist system and mounting…..repairing the masonry and joist pockets……..the sistering plan is headed in the right direction…….
If he were to use a POST to hold up the repair that would require a foundation/footing under the post……and also the house stucture could be compromised…….
Joists get fireman-notches…..

ParticipantWell if they’re separate fixtures you’ll need to have or you’ll install the junction box behind each fixture location……and locate and extend the wiring to these locations…
Some fixtures have a recessed 1″ space within the mounting plate….allowing the short surface mounted box to be used for the connections…….Others with flat mounts may need a flush/recessed j-box installed IN the wall ……hung from the drywall/plaster using a Remodel box)……it’s harder to attach to the stud unless the wall is wide open…….

ParticipantYou’ll destroy the wood …….creating ridges and valleys from the sand attacking the soft/hard grain differently……removing all crisp detail…
Stick to strippers/paint removers…..Or HEAT GUN and scrapers…..and finally sanding….
There’s no miracle cure….it’s just work….

Participantthe CEILING/RED is the HOT wire……….it connects to the LIGHT/BLUE and the FAN/BLACK……Three wires/one wirenut
The CEILING/WHITE is the neutral and connects to the FAN/WHITE…….Two wires/one wirenut
The remaining FAN/GREEN should connect to the strap or mounting bracket…..
And (of course) you already have a fan rated box installed in the ceiling……..?
